Listing: A listing is the main attraction of your directory business. It is what your directory is all about - simply put - a collection of stuff that is somewhat similar, whereas the listing is the front door of one thing in that collection.

Make sure you've set up at least 1 category and 1 tag, before starting.

  1. In the top navigation in /account, there is a button + New Listing.
  2. Click on it and fill out the form.
  • Title: This is the title and will be the base for the slug
  • Description: This is a markdown supported textarea.
  • Excerpt: This will be shown as a sneak preview to the listing as well as in the SEO SERP - so make sure it is SEO-optimized.
  • Tags & Categories Choose one or multiple tags and the most fitting category. If you need more, head back to the Category Manager or Tag Manager.
  • URL Enter a valid link that will be shown to users visiting the listing page.
  • Cover Image: Upload a cover image, e.g. a screenshot of the website.

There will be a button labelled 'Generate Ai Description'. When setup, this will generate the listing's description and excerpt, based on the URL - but only when OpenAI has knowledge about your listing based on the URL. It will not actually go on the website. (Might change it in the future, when this is a requested feature.) If your directory is not a directory for other websites, you might want to change the functionality of this button, e.g. let it create the long form content, based on a short excerpt that your provide.

  1. Click on Create.
  2. Head back to localhost:3000 and refresh the page. You should see your first listing on the front page - because we revalidated the path with making the update to the listing!

Congratulations. Your first listing is (locally) online.
